The Distance of A Cigarette
I made this cute book in the size of 1 ciagrette. It was initiated
by the absurdity of how fire is stored, carried and borrowed. And
then developed by the romantic moment when two strangers keep the distance of a cigarette. I scold the e-cigarette being too slick
and celebrate all the breathing, talks and contemplation in this
recognizable sphere that created by fire and cigarette.
The distance of a cigarette is based on the content of master thesis
in DAE. Five elements–a(fire), b(plant), c(smoker), d(time), e(space)
organized the discussion of how cigarette facilitates proximity in
terms of inherent construction(object), mechanism of use(human) and commodity attribution(human society). This investigation aims tounderstand why cigarettes, despite their infamy, exhibit rarity, especially in the era of late capitalism.
